what does this mean?

Likely a reference to the Cinderella story... I've heard it as "If the SHOE fits". So it may mean something like: you fit into a certain category... In cinderella, since the glass shoe fit her foot, she was the only one that the prince was looking for and so she fit into his needed category. Hope this helps
