size fuse for car stereo system?
ok i have a 1995 Saab 900 SE Turbo Convertible
i have a Dual XDMA6355, head unit
ill be running the stock Tweeters and Rear back seat speakers for now directly from headunit.
Front door speakers(mid speakers) Pyle PL63BL 6.5-Inch 360-Watt running from a Dual Electronics XIA3145(old amp laying around from a previous car), which runs 2 channel @ 100-150 watts.
Sub wise ill be using the Infinity Basslink 200 watt powered sub, cause well i dont have alot of room in my trunk of this convertible and that itself barely fits.
i use to have Dual BP1204 12-Inch 1100-Watt Illumination Bandpass Subwoofer, in my SUV, but they are way to huge for my trunky that i cant close the trunk correctly.
anyway, im running 4 gauge power from the battery to the trunk, where ill have a Disturbution block(4 gauge into 2x 8 gauge wires) which will each be coming to either the Basslink or amp.
now i want to put a fuse holder on the 8 gauge power from battery to dist block, i just am not sure what size i want. both "amps" will not be running at full power(prolly half power is enough).
in the future tho ill most likely be upgrading the Dual amp for a amp that has more pwoer so i can get full use of the front door speakers without having to go full power on the amp.
also im thinking about putting 2x 3.5 Farad Compacitor between the dist blocks and the amps just to make sure im not going to be putting strain on my electrical system, which is the whole reason why i bought this car, my system in my SUV just got shot to hell cause of my amp/subs drawing to much power and it couldnt handle it and just died.

The cap won't effect the strain on the electrical system. I wouldn't waste the money or time messing with that. They're just buffers. They actually increase the load on the electrical system slightly as they are simply a storage device and all storage devices by their nature suffer some degree of parasitic loss.
As for the fuse sizes. You said you're running 4 gauge primary wire but later said 8, so I'm not sure which one you're using.
Regardless -- The Dual has a pair of 20's - so it's capable of something around 40A of current draw, however, since it sounds like you'll be running it at 4 ohms stereo it probably won't require more than 20A or so at moments of high output.
From what I can tell your basslink has a 25A fuse.
Total current draw sounds like 50A or so at the peak, probably 15-20A at mid-high volume on average.
Ultimately, it's the size of your wire that determines your maximum fuses size, but if you're running 4 awg there's no reason to use a 100A fuse when you shouldn't be drawing over 50A.
So - I'd go with 50A whether you're running 4 awg or 8.
If you have a fused d-block a 20 or 30A for each amp should be fine.

Look at the fuses thats in your amps, add them together, then if its (ie 50A+70A) then get 140A or so for the fuse close to battery. I would suggest buy a Auto fuse. Makes it easy when you want to fool arround with your system, not needing to hook off the minus on battery (some hook off pluss)
