What would be a good name for a restaurant that showcases Mediterranean Gastronomy?
Not that I'm planning to start up a restaurant anytime within 3 years, but I happen to be visioning this in Hong Kong where there's already quite a strong Italian or French cuisine market, but I'm looking to just specialize in Mediterranean fare, where theire isn't really much of it.
Here are some of the dishes I believe it would showcase the European Med. (Sorry, no arabic influences, such as kebabs)
- Bouliabbaise and/or Seafood risoto.
- A pasta dish or two.
- Paeilla.
- Greek Inspired Lamb.
If you folks have any suggestions, you're entitled to an opinion and input.
You can add suggestions to dishes that are synonymous to the Mediterranean regions (not only Greece, Italy), it can have some French or Portuguese.

Med-pan. As in pan-Mediterranean. Not to be confused with bed-pan. lol. Seriously...

I think you can see where this is going...
I'm curious why you don't want to consider any Arab or Levant cuisine, as it's influence has been far-reaching and it has a longer history than food such as pasta and paella. I hope it's not based on any racist reason.
I think you'll find that bouillabaisse and paella are expensive things to stock a restaurant for, and you'll need some cost-effective items as well, such as soups, ratatouille and couscous (hummus and baba ghanoush and pita would work extremely well here, too, and be much more cost-effective, but they're "Arab"...). Btw, I know you're just asking a question, but make sure you spell these items you've listed correctly when you put them on your menu. Southern Europeans are very touchy about these things.
Eating is practically a sport in HongKong, and they like to graze, so I'd suggest some Spanish tapas and Greek appetizers (like the "Arab" ones I mentioned earlier, plus stuffed grape leaves and greek salads of cucumbers/tomatoes/onion/feta). From Southern France, besides ratatouille, there are also tians, which are similar, and vegetable-based (also cost-effective). There is a classic Sicilian dish called pasta con le sarde. made with sardines and fennel/anise, garlic, pine nuts, raisins, and saffron that I think would be much more popular with Asians than it is in the USA. It's fantastic, but it's "real" Sicilian food, not like the stuff in New Jersey. Portugal isn't on the Mediterranean, and I don't know much about their food, besides the sausages, but that might be a good addition, too. Remember to include a lot of different breads and salads from these regions as well, and plenty of olive oil. Good luck. Great idea for a restaurant, btw.

Just pick something that is stereotypically Mediterranean and stick it with the word bistro, cafe,or trattoria, e.g. Olive Leaf Cafe, Trattoria Adriatico, etc. Or just call it Maria's. There are seriously a lot of Marias round those parts.
