Fastest ? American Citizenship vs Green Card ?
A friends Greencard has expired. She's been an US resident for 6+ years. Applying for a new Green card vs applying for American Citizenship...which would go faster ?
And, while application is pending, would she be able to leave for homecountry in Europe in case of family emergency ?
Allow me to add some details: We do know the difference between Green card and citizenship. The q'n is - which application generally goes faster ? And while application is pending (and with an expired Green card) can a person leave the US in case of family emergency and return to the US without problems ?

Either way it's about 6 months. However, she can't apply for citizenship without the green card so no matter what she needs a new green card.
Of course this begs the question, since Green Cards are only issued for 2 years or 10 years how did hers expire after 6 years? If she has a 2 year card, given to women coming to the USA as fiance or spouse, and never filed an I-751 to remove the conditional status she's going to find herself in deportation proceedings.
She can leave the US and come back if she has an I-551 Stamp in her passport.

You will be required to produce your green card for the naturalization process. Plus you are required to carry your green card on you at all times anyway. So there is only one thing to do. Replace your green card.

renewing green card is faster. Citizenship can take up to seven years. An immigration lawyer can answer the re-entry question.

Both are almost similar, a green card holder is able to give vote and they also can apply for citizenship after some few years.
