Soldering iron tip help?

Hello, I got a little problem, I have recently purchased a soldering iron (15W) and the tip of the soldering iron was working fine (its a pencil tip one) Now after my second time using it the tip it black and does not produce heat. In other words when I turn the iron on and wait a while the tip of the iron does not heat up. Please help and if you have any advice or links please post them or maybe something I need to purchase. Thanks

Update:

I tried using a damp sponge to wipe it but still the same.....

You need to keep the tip tinned. You do this by wiping the hot tip on a wet sponge, then reapplying enough solder to coat the tip. Wiping the tip on the sponge and tinning will keep it clean. This will not work with a dry sponge.

Is the iron hot above the tip? If not the thing has played out, bring it back for a refund. If everything heats but the tip, and it's removable just replace it. Some of those irons burn through tips.

The copper oxide is never a good conductor of heat. Clean the tip with a sponge or rough denim with universal solvent and keep it clean. If it still does not get hot the element may be loose or damaged.

Clean and 'tin' the tip before you try to use it again.

Re-tin before you shut it down.

That coating of solder will both aid heat transfer and protect the

    tip from corrosin.
