how to get over a death of a parent?

my father dies last month. i hadent talk to him since i was 7...i am now 17! i never got to tell him that i forgave him . i just expected him to be there when i grew up to be in my kids lives. but he commited suicide. ive writen a poem and a note...all that! but everytime a song comes on about a father and daughter i think of him even though he didnt raise me much. and i cant really talk about him to deeply or ill start crying! what can i do to get over it?

Sorry to hear this. Like other answers, you never get over it completely, but in time it will get easier. I promise.I've been there.Pamper yourself if you can. You need a break from stress. Take care of yourself..health wise. You'll be thankful later in years. They say time heals everything..I say time heals many things, but not everything. Hang in there. One day you may have children of your own who need you, to be at your best..never forget to take care of yourself along the way. I didn't when my dad died, I turned to self destruction. Im paying for it years later. Don't make this mistake.

Sadly nothing especially if you were not on good terms with him.  The death of a parent who has loved and nurtured you is easier to deal with.  Counseling would be a good choice and can help you sort out your feelings.

talk to your mom and friends. they will help you feel better. you could also visit your dads grave and forgive him and say you love him. but this will take time. i really fell bad for you and i cant imagine the pain your going through. time will make it all better.
