How can some people even discredit Miguel Cotto but praise Sergio Martinez too much at the same time?
I think both fighters are great. But I cant believe how some people would unfairly downplay Miguel Cottos recent victory even his entire career though we saw him put on the best performance of his career last saturday. People say he is shot, that he doesnt fight good opposition, and beat Margarito because he too was shot. But at the same time here we are praising a guy like Sergio Martinez too much whose only significant Victory was against Paul Williams who already beat him, and a fading Kelly Pavlik.
Seriously, comparing the resume of the 2, Miguel Cotto has fought better opposition and champions troughout his Career. Some of them are future hall of fame inductees. Sergio Martinez on the other hand is ranked 3rd due to his crowd pleasing style, but come on! He has only Pavlik and Williams on his resume. And what irritates me the most about Martinez is he wants to challenge guys smaller than him (Pacquiao Mayweather) just because they pour in the money, instead of going up in weight so he could test his skills against Ward, Abraham, or Bute

Miguel Cotto is probably one of the most underrated boxers in the world. No doubt about it. Looking at his resume, he's fought much, much tougher fighters than Sergio Martinez. He defeated an undefeated Malignaggi (Malignaggi might not be great, but he's fast, has pretty good boxing skills and an iron chin), he beat Mosley (who beat Fernando Vargas twice by TKO the previous year), a younger Zab Judah (who in truth just came off back-to-back losses but was younger and still a good fighter), gave Yuri Foreman his first loss and now beat Margarito in a "fair" fight.
The loss to Pacquiao was just a loss against a greater fighter, and even still the first four rounds were pretty damn close.
The first loss, to Margarito, is very controversial because of that hand wrap thing which could definitely add to the power of impact. Cotto took this loss, didn't complain too much even after finding out about the illegal hand wrap thingy, asked for a rematch and settled it in the ring. Cotto is a great warrior and one of the best boxers in the world.
In comparison, Martinez ain't done s***. As you said Paul Williams and a fading Kelly Pavlik. Who else of even the slightest significance did he beat? No-one. Two big wins, one being against an over-the-hill fighter, the other being a lucky but very eye-pleasing knock-out, and now calls out smaller fighters who would still probably kick his a**. I think Ward, Abraham and Bute all would f*** the **** out of him.
They don't even compare, Cotto is an warrior who has fought many true fighters, Martinez is a cocky little c*** who thinks he's the best just by beating one decent guy. Pound-for-pound rankings should defo put Cotto on there if Martinez is.

Well i think people get overwhelmed by the fact that Sergio Martinez knocked out Paul Williams in 2RDs and ever since then he has been dominating people tend to look at the recent fights of a boxer but i would have to put Cotto ahead of Martinez due to his resume being more of a candidate for a place in the Hall a Fame.

Completely agree with you man, don't worry its just the people who go along with the bandwagon and all the hype that think that way. Cotto has always fought top guys and went after the big names. His resume speaks for itself. Sergio Martinez needs to stop trying to go after the smaller fighters and then complaining that they are ducking him when he's two weight classes above him lol.. its ridiculous. He should go after the big names in the Middleweight division, if he takes them all out, he'd get my respect, not that that even matters to him lol..my respect haha
