Why should I believe Jesus is God and why should I believe the Bible's depiction is accurate?

So remember, you can't say (x) said something and its true because (x) said so. Prove the infallibility.

Update:

Drifter, no as I have seen a female bear and cubs before. I've also seen them roam around, thus making the story plausible. To PROVE it is another matter entirely.

    Dude,

"This book had to be written by one of three people: good men, bad men or God. It couldn’t have been written by good men because they said it was inspired by the revelation of God. Good men don’t lie and deceive. It couldn’t have been written by bad men because bad men would not write something that would condemn themselves. It leaves only one conclusion. It was given by divine inspiration of God." John Wesley

Bible worship is a silly development that can only result from general ignorance of history.

For one thing, Christianity existed for over 300 years BEFORE there even was a biblical canon. So even stating something like : "To be a Christian you must follow the Bible", is nonsensical. It is an anachronism.

Second, the people who put together this canon, The Catholic/Orthodox Church (Don't care how much fundies dislike this fact, it's still a fact), never intended the Bible to be treated this way. They believed they had the authority to put together such a canon and that the canon derived its authority from the Church, and not the other way around.

Martin Luther, the first of the fundies, for whom these facts are rather uncomfortable found a way out by saying reason was unreliable anyway. What we follow is the Bible. That's completely silly of course, but once you've discarded reason, you allow yourself to be as silly as you want. At least Martin Luther recognize there was a problem. Dynamiting the very idea of consistency was his solution. Fundies of today prefer a mix of irrationalism and amnesia.

A fundamentalist would say because if you don't you go to hell. I say if your interested in what the Bible and the Jesus story is really about go to Jordan Maxwell's site on astrotheology. Let the truth of the story, long buried through the deaths of countless millions in the Inquisition and the burning of libraries and the taking of books locked up in the Vatican for their use only, let it be known. The key is in the bible you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free of the tyranny of religions.

Is that how you prove truth. With evidence and facts and everything that you think is rational? If someone said they saw a bear with her cubs, you wouldn't believe them unless they show you the bear and the cubs?

    Source(s): I am a Christian. :)

No. You should not believe it until there is documented evidence that Jesus is the son of God. It is like believing in flying pink polka dotted elephants because someone wrote down that they existed thousands of years ago.

There are about 24,000 ancient manuscripts of the Bible in several languages (e.g. Greek, Hebrew, Latin) and all of them are 99.5% identical, the equivalent of a few typos in a Sunday newspaper.

As an Isolated Rationalist you can believe in what you want to
