What is your opinion on evolution? (ATHEISTS & CHRISTIANS....and those who are inbetween)?
..um... im writing a paper on evolution and i want to add different views, so
first - identify whether you support evolution or don't... or if you in between (like deism)
second- WHY do you support it.. what are your reasons for supporting it (at least two solid reasons)
third- give references to back your point up.. don't just say " i don't believe in evolution cuz its crap" like (documents, theories, websites, bible verses)... stuff like that...
im a christian, i don't believe in evolution, but i like to be open minded seeing other ppls opinions about things, and its better to approach things from different angles... so im not accusing anyone.. i just would like to know your opinion!
@Damocles
the reason why i wrote im a christain I DONT support evolution is because i know some are christians and DO.. im only stating that i am one i dont suport it.. NOT generalising anything like saying all christian dnot beleive it.. as you can see i said THOSE IN BETWEEN
and again im not judging im only looking for opinion to put in my HOMEWORK im not critising anything...

Here is my list. There is more, I just tried to stick with the easy to understand ones.
* Fossils - the order can be determined by stratification alone (no radiological dating) it is unarguable and life started simple and got more complex. Here is a simple chart to show what I mean: http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/fossils/succession.html
* Circular species. Meaning that it geographically evolved in two geographic directions with interbreeding possible between all steps but not the two ends. The two ends are actually separate species. Example: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/library/05/2/l_0...
* Mitochondrial DNA regressive studies. - This comes only from your mother and the only changes to it are through mutations. These mutations occur at a known rate, and converge world wide 150,000 years ago give or take. If Eve (6000 years ago) was the only female, it would be almost identical world wide. It is not. The flood gives a second bottleneck that matches the facts even less well.
* Geographic distribution of related species. Meaning related species are usually near each other.
* Wisdom Teeth - there isn't room on your jaw for them anymore.
* Your little toe - totally useless. Nice intelligent design here.
* Your appendix - totally useless now but it does digest cellulose in other species.
* Your inner eyelids - They don't even work now, but they do for lots of other animals like house cats. Bet you didn't even know you had 'em.
* Vestigial DNA - meaning chromosomes that we have but don't use, but that are used in other species. We have several that other primates use but are totally useless to us.
* The fact that we share so much DNA among species
* There are no wild milk cows. They evolved through artificial selection and are totally man made.
* Different breeds of dogs, cats, livestock.
* Viruses and bacteria evolve quickly and you can actually see it. This is why you need a new flu shot every year.
* Your tail bone. It is even not that uncommon to be born with a tail.
* Goosebumps - this would be useful if we had fur because it fluffs it and makes more insulation. For us it is worthless.
* The hair standing up on your neck when you are frightened. Animals use this to make themselves look bigger. Doesn't work when you walk upright and don't have fur.
* The fact that humans have gotten measurably and heritability taller since the 1600s
* The fact that humans jaw have gotten measurably and heritability smaller since the 1600s
* The fact that humans little toes have gotten measurably and heritability smaller since the 1600s
* Human lower back problems. Your back is intelligently designed to have support from your shoulders.
* Transitional fossils - here are several lists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transitional_...

okay to start up with i think of you advise the bible's memories are a metaphorical description because of the fact calling it vivid does not make any experience in line with what vivid means. vivid means extreme, stunning or interior the context you employ very particular....the bible's memories are actually not. yet element taken they seem to be a widespread metaphor it fairly is clever i will not be able to assert i'm an authority yet I easily have studied it and that i've got pronounced this interior the R+S room (crammed with basically as many insulting theists on account that "you're gonna burn" isn't high quality no count the way you advise it) that *not something* in Evolution says God does not exist, can not exist or had not something to do with the approach. that's not something extra and not something under a organic and organic explination of ways the forces of nature could desire to diversify existence on the earth to all that's present day varieties from an undemanding initiating Now if a God/s had to electrify it relatively some those might desire to do is impression the DNA molecules during the time that a mutation could desire to take place and if this God became into all effectual and all understanding....it actual understand precisely a thank you to electrify to get a particular effect inspect Ken Miller's "looking Darwin God" in case you have any pastime in this

I'm a Christian (and also a young-earth creationist). I believe in "Micro-evolution" which means small evolutionary changes. Dog breeds, bacterial studies, and the evolution of finch beaks would be examples of this. However I do not believe in "Macro-evolution", the idea that all of the kinds/ species of animals evolved from each other and from a single celled ancestor. Macroevolution is a type of evolution that cannot be demonstrated in a laboratory. The scientific method says that results have to be reproduced/ demonstrated in the present time to be considered scientific. You cannot show people evolving from Apes in the laboratory. Therefore I do not accept it as science. Read the links I listed as my sources, they help explain the difference between micro and macro evolution.

In my opinion, any discussion of evolution among people who have strong feelings about it is a foolish endeavor. It will inevitably end in conflict and trouble. Before anyone should even venture to pose an argument about evolution he should understand the logical processes of theory, hypotheses, and applicability, he should know the difference between an inference and an observation, and he should know the difference between science and philosophy and be able to apply both.
You assume too much when you write, "im a christian, i don't believe in evolution." They are completely independent. There are many Christians who accept evolution and many who do not, just as there are many non-Christians who do and do not.
Evolution is a fact, like gravity. It is a natural process. There are many theories which attempt to explain the evolutionary processes, just are there are different theories which attempt to explain how gravity works. Different theories apply in different situations.
There will be others who provide arguments and evidence of evolution and many others who present their opinions without facts or with bad facts. Asking about evolution on Y!A is probably one of the worst forums to use.
In my opinion, this exercise is a waste of your time because it is doomed to fail.

Ok, try this. A SCIENTIFIC theory is one supported by a preponderance of evidence. A THEORY is just that, a guess not supported by anything.
Evolution is a scientific theory supports but ALL BRANCHES of science. Not just biology, not just paleontology, ALL of them. So maybe you don't trust science. If so, why are you using a computer? Your computer is a result of years of scientific research and development.
Why don't you go jump off the roof? After all gravity is also a theory. It sure isn't angels holding us down.
You can be a christian and learn to understand evolution. They aren't mutually exclusive. But the idea of Adam and Eve riding dinosaurs is beyond ignorant.

evolution is true. i don't feel like getting too much into it but for an example. Medication against bacteria is becoming a problem because they are evolving so they can survive. We are having to use stronger and stronger antibacterial drugs because bacteria is adapting so rapidly. And then you have the super bacteria in hospitals because they sterilize the rooms sooo often.

It's not like you can "support" evolution. You either accept or you don't. I accept it because the observations and evidence support it. Until there is proof showing otherwise, this seems reasonable. And with that, I can build on it and also get on with my life.

Evolution is a legitimate scientific theory with adequate evidence to be one, and it should not be a controversial issue. If it didn't bring into question the legitimacy of ancient myths it would be well accepted, as it should be.

Well there's roughly 4 billion years worth of evidence supporting evolution. So, yeah. You figure it out.

In my honest opinion, the only place actual evolution exists in Pokemon...
I don't mean what I call 'Lifespan Evolution' such as a baby growing into an adult.
My belief is God made everything how he intended and it has stayed how He wanted it. And it will remain that way because God makes no mistakes.
