What are you welding? What is a decent price to you?
I prefer TIG for Aluminum. I have used mig with spool gun for thicker stuff at work. I have a lincoln 140 mig at the house and I was surprised that i feed alum wire without bird nesting. I could get a spool gun for it if i wanted to. Due to it being a small machine I was limited on the thickness. Miller has some entry level tig machines for around 1K

You can also find used syncrowaves and idealarcs for the same price.
Eastwood has an AC/DC TIG unit on sale for 699.00 It's made in China but Eastwood oversees the manufacturing. I have a friend who has a 220v Eastwood mig. Loves it. It came with the spool gun He got it for around 500 or 600.

If you want to go the mig route I would highly recomend a 220 machine. The Millermatic 211 is getting great reviews. You can use in on a 110 or 220 outlet.
The 220 Machines that Miller/Hobart and lincoln sell are spool gun ready. Once again you can find deals on used ones.
Then there is the Chinese route. I have heard some great things about them. I have also heard customer service sucks. I haven't personally used any. I would look at a miller or lincoln first. But if it works and the price is right, i may give them a shot.
they do have a combo stick/tig/plasma cutter for around 1K.

It all depends on what you are doing. For light duty stuff 1/8 to 1/4 inch a spool gun will be the cheapest option. For intricate work tig. For production a push pull unit with a pulse arc but these are big $.
