Atheists: Are you offended by 'Merry Christmas'?

Christians: Are you offended when people refuse to say Merry Christmas?

Update:

I ask because of the "controversy" in Rhode Island right now. The Governor held a "Holiday Tree" lighting ceremony, and lots of people seem to be upset by this... So much so that a republican state senator held a competing "Christmas Tree" lighting ceremony in protest on the other side of the State House.

It seriously seems that in spite of all the "war on Christmas" nonsense I hear, the only people bent on "Political Correctness" are the ones who are offended that you won't use their religious vernacular.

No, I'm not offended by that phrase at all.

I love Christmas, and I probably tell people "Merry Christmas!" a million times before Christmas actually gets here. Yeah, I know that it's just a commercialized knock-off of the Pagan winter solstice and everything, but hey, I've called it Christmas since I was a kid and there's no reason to stop now.

It's the politically correct nut jobs who will eventually try to force the term "Happy Nonspecific Winter Celebration Time Period!" that offend me.

i don't comprehend why human beings make a huge deal out of Merry Christmas..human beings say it each and all the time and that i haven't any project listening to it from others even while i do no longer rejoice it; i'm going to even say it lower back to them. so a approaches as "you are going to hell", the only 2 places i've got heard this is here and from my brother. I stay in a liberal portion of u.s. so it is not a word you hear kicked around too often.

  • No, not at all. I mean, are christians offended when jewish people say 'Happy Hanuka?'

well, that and since every i know, along with my parents whom i live with, are christians i celebrate christmas. it's more of a cultural thing anyway nowadays, i mean how often do you really hear 'god' and 'jesus' during the holidays? besides the christ in CHRISTmas, thats the closest it comes to religion.

I always just say "Happy New Year". I'm not at all offended by someone wishing me a Merry Christmas.

Refusing to say Merry Christmas sounds like a personal problem.

I have no problem saying Happy Hanukkah.

no, christmas isn't really christmas anymore

people only think of it as about getting

we live in a selfish society

though i see christmas as more of a tradition than a religious thing

    Of course not.

I have, however, been on the receiving end of an angry tirade from a Christian outraged that I'd said "Happy holidays" -- and I was speaking to somebody else!

I'm pagan. I just say "happy winter solstice" You can celebrate old pagan holidays and call them whatever you want! (christmas used to be saturnalia, a roman holiday)

Nah. I am fine celebrating the birthday of a good man from long ago if it brings people together. Now, is he the son of a god? No!

Absolutely not. Wishing somebody a happy few days, for whatever reason, is fine by me.
