I have searched the internet but need some "real life" answers to how to get rid of scabies?

My little grandson has them ...help? I have never dealt with these before - are they like lice? Are they hard to get rid of? Some real answers please..

I had gotten scabies when I was either 8 or 9 from our family cat and it's a nasty parasite that goes under the skin and causes nasty and painful blisters. You'll have to probably take your grandson to the doctor so he can make sure it's scabies and then he/she should prescribe you with a cream to put on him. the cream will kill the parasite and he should be all clear in a week or so.

Take him to the doctor. They will have you put permethrin 5% on him over night. Wash his linnens, and his clothing. Give your house a good vaccum and wipe down ONCE ONLY! It is not necessary to do it daily, it is not necessary to wash his bedding daily, once is good. Then retreat in a week, wash his bedding again....and everything should be okay. He will itch for a few weeks after, and it may even be a couple months before the bumps are gone...but that doesn't mean he is still infested. They are not that hard to get rid of and the best thing you can do is listen to your doctor and NOT the people online. Your doc went to medical school and DOES have your best interests at heart. The people online are fueled by over active imaginations, fear, and lack of education. Also, they should be gone after the first treatment....typically the second is just precautionary. Good luck!

It's a mite, and needs to be treated with an insecticide.

    Take him to the doctor.

And try to keep whatever he uses (like sheets) separate, and wash them in hot water.

I have only dealt with dog scabies, but it was extremely contagious.

Oh, icky. Yes they are hard to get rid of and worse than lice. They are parasites, ie bugs, under your skin. My godmother got them from a motel before. It took her months to get rid of them.

You have to launder/bleach/sterilize EVERYTHING & I'm pretty sure your doctor has to give you medication to get rid of them.

You need a doctors script. One treatment and they are gone. It is permethin. Also found in dog dip medications. Deadly to cats.

When you mean "for example," use e.g. It is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase exempli gratia. When you mean "that is," use "i.e." It is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase id est.
