Moving to SF, Freaking out some?
My fiance got a transfer to SF from the east coast and so we are moving there very soon. I'm freaking out about money, jobs, moving, etc. We are planning to get an apartment in San Leandro which has a BART station and an easy commute. I am 27 and just finished grad school for human resources so I suppose now is the best time as any to embark on something new. How is the job market out there? In particular, How is the HR field? She has a job and so we can pay bills but we are still gonna be counting our pennies I'm sure until I find something. I just don't want it to take me 6 months.

It will be very difficult to find a HR job in San Fran - to expand on the world of HR = HR is one of the first to be cut, the last to be hired, and everyone thinks they can do the job.
You are more likely to find a job way below your skill level but that might not be the best long term plan. Your best bet is to start doing HR networking now. There are probably both SHRM and the NHRA chapters in San Fran. There might be other groups too (like LA has PIHRA). You also need to start contacting anyone that potentially knows someone or knows of someone in San Fran.
With a masters degree you need one year of experience to get your SPHR certification. If you can't find a job, see if your former professors know of an internship for you to get this experience.

Jobs are scarce. Human Resource jobs are even scarcer since a lot of companies have cut down on how many people they need to run HR and people are clinging onto their current jobs with tooth and nail. My law firm laid off all but the benefits person in our HR dept. about 2 years ago.
