Security cameras / shoplifting at target?
So my little brother shoplifted and put it in my bag without me noticing. The merchandise was opened, so he basically dumped the wrapper somewhere and took out the item and put it in my bag. We walked around the store for a while after he did this, then I paid for the things I bought and exited the store.
I know this is wrong, but my question is will both he and I be okay? I paid for credit card via my items ($60), and the lead pencil he stole was already opened (he said, so he merely just took it out of its plastic packaging) and it was $9, so can Target like find the open wrapper, or see security cameras (and there are so many there, like 1 every 2 feet) and track me walking to go pay and have my credit card information then call me up or something?
Target in California.
Thanks so much! Please no answers like we got lucky or something. I know this is wrong and he's never doing it again.

Your safe.
1.) They do inventory (check what supplies they have and don't) every month and only for big stuff (like electronics and what not). So it would be a month before they do anything, if they did, which they wont.
2.) Although target has a lot of security cameras, they are, if not fake, incredibly poor quality. it's mainly to scare you and they probably only record it for that day then re-record over that tape.
3.) Hypothetically, if they were to do inventory on something as cheap as pencils and have decent security tapes (about 1 percent chance) in general, they wouldn't care. The people doing inventory are young and underpaid and the security is underpaid and the manager is underpaid too so they dont give a ****.
4.) They would have no way of knowing who you are or how they would arrest you.
5.) Most major stores have shoplifting policies that if its under a certain amount they wont arrest you (walmart is around 30$, I dont know target).
Youre safe dont sweat it and dont feel bad. Target is destroying american manufacturing jobs by giving them away overseas to underpaid children. At worst you steeped to there level. Sorry for my bad grammer.

I used to work for Target. Not going to lie, I worked there for months and stole everything under the sun. Even money, and they supposedly have "cameras" at every register. I didn't have money? Who the hell cares? I would walk right past security with the items in my hands and out the store. I was never confronted, Ever. But I've been shoplifting for years. I know how to do it properly. I've stolen thousands of dollars worth of stuff. And word to the wise, if you're gonna steal from Target, don't bother taking it out of the package. Their theft sensors at the door are ****. And most of the time? There's no device to set it off. The idiots left out boxes of Beats headphones without spider wrapping them so I swiped a box. Took it out of the store no problem. My only regret is that I didn't take more.

I had a friend that worked at Target and said he had been in the security office. They basically have cameras that can see every crevice of the store, so they watch everyone, especially the "suspicious ones.' Were you wearing baggy clothing? Anyways, I doubt they have much of a case if they didn't find the watches on you and have no security footage of you doing anything out of the ordinary. You could write a heated letter to corporate and I guarantee they would at least give you a large giftcard to the store. How long did they hold you?

If you got out of the store without being snagged by security, you're probably all right.
I don't think I'd take that brother shopping again. You'll be OK, but he may find shoplifting just the first rung on a career criminal ladder. ... Best of luck!!

I'm sorry, but I don't have a camera myself in the Target security room. All depends on your luck, if the guy watching the cameras was sleeping or too lazy or bored to notice you, which is a big chance, considering that he won't watch you on every TV you appear on thinking your gonna do something.
PS to that smart *** who posted "Tha shall not steal" really?! This is not bible study, this is the real world, were god doesn't exist and doesn't affect our lives, and if he did he obviously won't send you to hell for stealing a pencil...

Target AP team will not review the tapes just because they found a wrapper. Most likely they will think that this wrapper was lost during logistics operations since quite a few things come off the trailer damaged. So, you are OK, just have a talk with your brother so he doesn't get in trouble trying to do something like that again.
