Why do you prefer manga to anime?

Just a question so I can get a little insight :)

I love anime, I grew up watching it and I never even thought about reading manga until recently. I love japenese voice acting. I love a good soundtrack. I love the emotion and passion a great soundtrack and great voice acting adds to animes. I think that the extra demension animation gives te characters is awesome.

When I read forums and comments I get the general impression that most manga readers dislike animes because they tend not to follow the plot of the manga they are base in closely. Is that the only reason? I'd love to hear some of your opinions!

Also, I'd like to think I have a great imagination and reading has always been one of my passions. For some reason there is a huge difference for me when I get to create an entire world in my own head based off of pure text, but when I read manga and the characters are drawn out already I have a hard time putting a voice with the character and adding emotion to that voice. Maybe I've been spoiled by animes. I generally only read a manga after watching an anime that ends before the manga does.

So I guess the main question is this: manga fans, why do you prefer manga to anime? ^^

Not trying to start any fights.

Wrote this on my iPhone so I apologize for any spelling errors, I hope it all makes sense :)

I don't ALWAYS prefer manga to anime. But if I read the manga first, then that is what I am familiar with and it's disappointing when the anime changes plot points that I already liked. Also when I read I can create a perfect pacing and emotion and voices for myself, where the anime it might have weird pacing and how they build the emotion is different than what I had perfectly in my head.

I also judge on artwork. I feel like the manga art is often better than it's anime counterpart. This isn't always true, but it is a lot for the ones I read. Plus if the anime doesn't have very good animation, like the quality isn't too great, it bugs me and I don't feel like watching it.

EDIT Oh and some other good points are that anime has lots of filler episodes nowadays that are annoying. Anime often leave out interesting details that were in the manga that wouldn't need to be cut out (like Fruits Basket. If you watched the anime, you would have no idea Momiji was part German)

But for the most part I prefer whichever I tried first. Sometimes I like the manga, sometimes I like both, sometimes I like only the anime. It just depends.

Please read this, I have asked myself the same question and have come to a conclusion after watching/reading many anime.

From personal experience, I have found that there are situations in which anime are better than manga and situations where manga are better than anime. It really depends on the contents of the anime and personal preference.

There are two types of people: those who have little imagination and enjoy the author's choices, and those who enjoy imagining most things themselves.

    For those with little imagination:

I think that anime/manga where lots of action is portrayed and is significantly outweighing the dialogue, anime are better. It allows all the motion and action going on to have a larger impact than simply having 5-6 (sometimes more or less) pictures on a single event. An example would be Samurai Champloo. The fluid movements as well as the choreography reach full potential in anime like these. However for anime/manga that focuses more on dialogue than action, I think the manga do a better job. When put into anime version, a lot of the actual dialogue is lost and when translated, the author's wordage is completely destroyed. The reason they are so popular in Japan is because the author's style of writing is so addictive. Manga do a better job in keeping to the actual words, but are changed to sound more "American" when translated in anime.

For those with lost of imagination:

These type of people can easily make an entire scenario out of only a couple of images. Action anime/manga can often times be better to readers of this sort as to them, the movements can be even more drastic in their minds than what can be displayed in anime, considering the time restraint. Like you said, an entire world may be fabricated just from reading a page or two which is why manga is much better for people like you. On the same note, those with a strong sense of imagination sometimes have difficulty imagining a large quantity of text, since each person has their own voice and many anime have quick conversations that jump around a lot. Because of this, watching the anime version of those that are dialogue heavy may prove to be beneficial. Often times, hearing a voice actor say the lines makes you think more critically of it as well, and you may pick up on many things that you might miss when simply reading it. An example of this would be Stein;Gate or Clannad.

I personally am the first option, but I tend to both read and watch both anime and manga.

Some people prefer manga to anime because of:

    1) manga is more thorough, and the story from the anime wavers a bit from the manga.

    2) the manga are longer and more entertaining at parts, and you can imagine any voice you want. There is also no sort of sound effects added, so you can be all like, BOOM! for a simple pop.

    3) it's good for reading! :D

Source(s): Manga > Anime But anime's still cool as heck to watch.

I love anime, I am madly obsessed with English voice actors <3 Some people just like the storyline of the manga better but what they don't realize is that the people change the anime because since manga stories are made by like 1 or 2 people, they are more cheesy (SOMETIMES) than anime because animes are made by a bunch of people so there is a bunch of editing.

Also a bunch of people go for the original touch.

It depends. Sometimes I prefer watching the anime like because I want to see the fights and see the emotions more.

The times in which I refer to the manga is because I want to get through things faster and I just really want to know what happens next and the manga tends to be like 50+ chapters ahead of the anime, on average.

In theory anime is better than manga.

But when a person reads a manga first, then sees the anime, they are often disappointed due to an inadequate adaption. And worst of all, filler.

It's the same concept as people always saying "the book was better," though not to the same degree since manga at least has pictures.

I prefer manga. I hate how slow paced anime can be and how hit or miss tge animation can, especially when dealing with long running manga series. I am a huge fan of Dragon ball and hate how slow paced the anime is, even Kai suffers from this. Even the fights are lacking. I hate how it just looks like two stiff dudes are hitting each other, instead of having fluidity to their movement.

my reason is just like reading...my mind dose some of the action parts in my head that is left out in mangas... i also like art styles and how things are drawn, some animes leave out stuff in the manga...or dont have as much detail as the manga...also a bonus is we get to know what happens ahead of the anime fans ;)

Soul Eater is unquestionably solid for anime ! xD It has 51 episodes and the storyline isnt cheesy or overused... The characters are rather all in simple terms very solid and its fantastically humorous too ! yet another you would be able to correctly be To Aru Majutsu no Index , It has 25 episodes its it got here out no longer too some time past i wouldnt say its old...
