Need help with a thesis statement!?

Im writing a 2000 word essay on hip hop for my literature class. I want to prove that there is a connection between today's rap and poetry from hundred of years ago. Anything helps guys! Thanks!

    I just finished my term paper lol.

    This is what I think of rap today: Selfishness, Sex, Drugs, Freedom, Arrogance, Dominance

    Why do people rap today? Is it because they want freedom? Do they want to assert their dominance? Do they want to express their feelings?

    What was the purpose of poetry from a hundred years ago?
