rap is a style of vocal delivery. it can be, and is, used to talk about any subject manner.

2. If you don't listen to classic rock, then you have awful music taste.

classic rock is a radio format. if you listen to a radio format you don't have taste in music, you borrowed someone else's.

3. Metalheads are generally angry and aggressive people (this could also go for punk fans, I suppose)

a large variety of people enjoy metal. i also find it interesting that in the case of rap, the stereotype was that all the music is about X, but in the case of metal the stereotype is that the people reflect one of the archetypal subject matters of the genre.

4. Writing pop music does not require talent.

not true. the producers are often very talented people. some of the singers, however...

6. Electronic music all sounds the same.

you should try listening to electronic music. it is not all club music like the stereotypes assume. it spans the range all the way to avant garde jazz.

where to even begin? with the amazing variety of music recorded on independent labels these days, or with the idea that enjoying any attempts at high art is somehow a character flaw?

Being an indie music fan does not make me pretentious! Arcade Fire is my very favourite band, but I do listen to music from all genres, and I don't judge people based on their musical tastes. I'm sick of how if I ever recommend an indie band on a site, I get all these thumbs down and comments about how I'm a "hipster" or "think I'm smarter than everyone else". I don't like this music for the idea of it being not mainstream, thinking it'll make me cool, I like it because I relate to it and like the way it sounds, nothing more.

The people that are calling me judgemental are the people that are doing the judging.

Sorry if that was kind of a rant, but I thought I'd take the opportunity.
