iisreset /stop and stopping w3svc in iis 6.0 and 7.0?

In iis 6 and 7 are iisreset /stop command and stopping w3svc service the same?if no whats the difference and is there any caveat if i stop and start the service instead of doing iisreset /stop and iisreset /start?

    There is no "reset" that I know of. There is a restart though.

    The difference between stop and restart is just what it sounds like. Stop will stop the service and restart will stop and then restart the service.

    I personally do a stop and then start. I want to make sure that the service shuts down all the way. Sometimes it is possible that the service will get "stuck" trying to do a restart.
