Do you think abstinence only sex ed helps reduce teen pregnancies?

Do you think a sex ed program that covers all aspects about safe sex or abstinence only would help reduce teen pregnancies. Also do you think shows like Teen Mom glorify it?

My thoughts are not very important. Research says they are ineffective.

Researchers at the University of Georgia have just published the first large-scale study of teen pregnancy rates by state in comparison with sex education curricula. The results demonstrate that rates of teen pregnancy are “significantly higher” in states that use “abstinence-only” models, while lower in those that provide a more comprehensive education, including birth control instruction and STI prevention alongside abstinence. Moreover, the significance of the relationship remained even when the researchers adjusted for potentially important factors like socioeconomic status, education level and ethnicity.

Studies have shown abstinence-only to be an abject failure, with increased rates of teen pregnancy in every state that mandate abstinence-only sex education...

It reminds me of the "Just say no" campaign, but human beings are human beings. We have sex, and all of the denial in the world will not change that fact.

Abstinence only is a joke and doesn't reduce teen pregnancies. I don't watch Teen Mom and never will. I hate "reality" shows.

Teen Mom does glorify it. Get pregnant at a young age and get your own show!!!!! However, abstinence only DOES NOT help.

No, I really do not think so. Yes I think Teen Mom glorifies it. We should be discouraging and shunning teen pregnancy and encourage proper family planning.

I don't need to think. We have studies. Abstinence only programs work briefly then lead to higher rates of unintended pregnancy.

Any sensible sexual education class will discuss all birth control options.

"Also do you think shows like Teen Mom glorify it?"

    Yes.

Abstinence only education doesn't work in the home . . . why would we expect it to work in schools?
