Question about ethernet cord for xbox?

I have always used a wireless router, but i want to switch to wired, with an ethernet cord. Ive never used one before, so this is a stupid question, but do i need a special kind of cord? or just a patch cord with two ends that have ethernet plugs?

    You just need a patch cord with two ends because that's what i did and it worked.

    nothing special, just regular ethernet cable
