car starter killing my battery. get new battery after change?
my starter is bad and im going to replace it tomorrow. one of the problems was that it kept killing my battery. my question is do i need to get a new battery after i replace my starter since it kept draining it? or can i use the same battery. the batteries about a year old(estimately) .
thanks
what my car does sometimes is when i turn the key nothing happens, no clicking or anything, and i bang the starter slightly with a rod and then my engine turns over when i turn the key. so from this i am assuming my starter is bad. also, ive read a few times that a bad starter will drain a battery. i havent done much work on starters before so im a little new to this.

If your battery is about a year old then you should have a warrantee on it and regardless of the fact if you yourself have been charging it, you should take it in and get a free one and start with a fresh battery.
What a starter does, is actually crank the engine. It doesn't really kill the battery unless the battery has a low charge or it's cranking the motor for several revolutions without starting. Keep in mind, a battery is charged by the alternator and when it's cold outside, even with a healthy alternator which hopefully yours is adequately charging your battery, you could still experience a lower cold cranking amps then what you did in the summer months.
I don't think your starter is the source of your problem. If your battery is dying you could have a draw somewhere or the alternator isn't working adequately anymore and needs replaced.

I'm trying to figure out how the starter is killing your battery? The starter is only needed once for a quick turn over of your engine. It turns the engine over with one crank of the ignition switch. Is your battery not turning the starter over? My first guess is that the battery is bad. Replace that first.

your battery should be fine if it was your starter but after replacing the starter if the alternator is good it should charge the battery if it dos sent hold a charge after running for a few minutes

hi, their is a device staying on i might initiate via removing each and all the fuses once you end using the automobile next, placed the fuses in one at a time and notice which fuse motives the battery to die. to envision this out disconnect the detrimental clamp on the battery hook up a try mild to the detrimental placed up and the clamp (do no longer connect the clamp to the battery) with the ignition off and each and all the fuses in make confident all structures are timed out then verify to confirm if the mild maintains to be on initiate removing the fuses separately till the mild is going off this may be the final fuse you bumped off. verify that device out some issues to envision are the glove field and any arrogance upload-ons. good luck
