What to bring as a side dish for a "steak and potato" Christmas dinner?

Weird? Yes, I agree. My mother decided she's not doing the turkey/ham route as the family attending Christmas dinner this year is downsizing and going elsewhere. Anyways, they are making steak and baked potatoes and I am to bring a couple side dishes. However, half of the people have issues with cheese and dairy (not lactose intolerance or an allergy- they just refuse to try it- yet will eat pizza with no issues), and I'm at a loss for an appropriate side dish to bring that won't go to waste. (I've had that happen before to veggies and dip, a pumpkin pie dip that utilized cream cheese, and even a jalapeno popper dip that everyone seemed to love until they realized the main ingredient was cream cheese.) I don't want to throw away my money. Any suggestions for this picky family??

Aside from the turkey and ham, we will also have venison for Christmas lunch so that's not really weird.

Go to the food network website and enter "side dishes". They have literally thousands and you can have your pick of non dairy ones.

    Good luck

You are only asking about good side dishes and not how to make them right? Because I am having baked ham for Christmas as well. I don't really have a problem with the side dishes as my family is quite vocal. Everybody wants what they want. I have a lot of side dishes that I will be serving as follows: Cole slaw Baked beans with pork & molasses Corn bread w bacon on top Mashed potatoes with lots of thick gravy Wild rice with mushrooms, lots of mushrooms Green beans, green peas & carrots Candied sweet potatoes I make a big dish of roasted vegetables, potatoes, again, turnips, carrots, green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms & sometimes cabbage that I've pre-cooked (remember I made cole slaw but it could be a really big cabbage and they like it roasted too). Always lots of butter & sour cream & biscuits on the table. Wouldn't consider offering you new recipes to be trying out at this time of year. Your quite busy enough. Stick with the tried and true perhaps a little switch up here are there, can't hurt.

Most picky eaters will still eat bread.

I'd suggest making bread from scratch and doing the bake just before dinner. Hot fresh bread from the oven will be popular. I'd have said garlic bread, but that relies on cheese. Since the oven won't be tied up with a Turkey, this is a possibility.
