facebook won't let me log in?
For the last few days, when I try to log in it repeatedly pops up a screen saying, "Secure Your Account. It looks like you downloaded software that is affecting your Facebook account and showing you unauthorized ads. We'll walk you through a few steps that will remove the software and secure your account."
It does not give me a choice to skip this option, and if I follow it through it wants me to download something it claims is McCaffrey. But I already have Avast system on my computer and it has not detected any viruses.
I want to report this to facebook and see if it is valid, but I can't even do that without being able to log in!
Just to clarify, I don't think it has to do with violation of terms. I haven't recieved a warning of any kind, and nothing says my account has been suspended. Also, I can log in to the limited mobile version on my phone. I just tried to report the problem from there, but it says I need to log into a computer to access the full site in order to report problems (rolling eyes). That's the problem - I can't log in via my computer!
SOLUTION: After trying several things, I started using Mozilla Firefox browser. I've logged in and out several times over the last couple of days to experiment. I still can't log in with Internet Explorer (64 bit) due to this message, but I haven't yet had problems while using Firefox.
I've considered that it may be related to Facebook's partnership with McAfee, but I still don't like that they *force* you to go through these steps to "secure your account" when other virus scanners don't detect a problem. If I've found something else that gets rid of this message and lets me log in, I'm not resorting to facebook's "solution" to a problem they created.

I've seen a lot of questions regarding this just since yesterday. I've been searching for an answer because I can't log in either. I can log in using my son's laptop. Try going to a public computer (library?) and logging in from there. Don't download the McAfee app until you get an answer. I ran AVG on my computer and nothing came up. Others have said they ran their own virus/spyware programs and nothing's coming up. I don't like the fact that there's no OPT-OUT..
If you can log in from a public computer (or a friend's computer) maybe you can access the full Facebook site and get an answer. Whatever this is, it started affecting a lot of people just yesterday (December 17, 2011)

I'm having the same problem. My guess would be cyber attack. More often than not, these things are cleared up by the amazing people at Facebook. Those Tech-Wizards. But, sometimes it can take a while. Bear with it. It will come around. I'm chrisbowersox on facebook by the way. Add me as a friend if you think I helped out with the question. !!

My Daughter has the same problem with her Facebook page. She first assume it was something she had overlook while entering her email address, or password. However after months of getting the same message she went to her father's Facebook page & search for her own page and its still THERE, but she can't access it ANY more. She's stubborn still trying to figure out why she cannot access her FB page, but I think perhaps its due to something not in agreement\w FB code of conduct while online. You have 2 B careful what you say when you're networking & sharing online :0)
Hope this help you.

I had this same problem ten minutes ago but I resolved the issue. I went to Facebooks Help Center and read up on 'Known Login Issues' to see if this was a Virus going through Facebook, and found this.
"When I log in to Facebook, I see a message telling me I have a virus and need to scan my computer with McAfee software."
"You're seeing this message because we detected suspicious patterns in the way your account was being used. These patterns suggest that you computer might be infected with malware. In order to keep both your account and the files on your computer secure, your computer needs to be scanned and cleaned. Since we partner with McAfee, you can do this for free by logging into Facebook and following the on-screen directions. Learn more about McAfee. "
After reading this I went through the Facebook steps and allowed the program to search my computer for malware and I now have my facebook back! (& no it didn't download a virus, i scanned my computer again with my own McAfee)
