Is the attorney who handles a social security disability case for an adult entitled to a portion of the money?
going to a dependent child? I know they get a portion of the money collected for the client but I cannot see how they are entitled to a portion of the child's money. Id like some information before I fill out forms with social security
I don't know any of the details as it was my ex husband who did all of this. I saw that an attorney took a chunk of the check my son received but no one can tell me why. I have a call into that attorney but have not heard anything back.

CW is correct: Soc Sec laws set the fee. It's 10 percent. It doesn't matter who is receiving the benefits (adult or child); the work the attorney has to do is the same.

That depends on the arrangement between the attorney and the person who hired him. Normally for disability cases, however, it's a flat or hourly rate, and not a percentage.
