What is the process to move to America..!?

My boyfriend (26 years old) lives in Tampa Bay, Florida. I (22 years old) live in Canada (Toronto, Ontario) I am a Canadian born and raised here. He is American. I will be going to Florida in February.. How long can I stay in america with my passport? What if I decide to move there with him permanently what are the steps? If we get married will it be easier for me? Or can I just not get married, and just go through the paper process.. how long is the process? Would it be approved? I need all the information with detail and be specific. Thanks in advance.

As a Canadian you can visit the US for 180 days, however you can't work.

If you plan on marrying him and want to live in the US, you will have a ton of paper work to plow through. Follow the link:

Getting paperwork to live in the US long term was never easy to get, more difficult since the world trade center terrorist attacks. Many Canadians visit Florida and even own homes there that they use for the winter. Visiting will not be a problem, see how things work out with your relationship. But if you get serious about marriage and long term living, contact an immigration attorney. The laws change all the time, and you don't want do do anything based on what could be false or outdated information. The small amount you spend to make sure things are done right will be money well spent.

You may visit in the U.S. for up to 6 months, but not work. Immigration to the U.S. is a long , difficult process. If you become engaged, he may apply for a fiance visa for you. You must wait in Canada til it is approved 9 or Not0 and it takes about 8 to 12 months. It is the best chance you have, but you must marry within 3 months of the time the visa is granted. if you wait til after you are married, he can apply for a spousal visa for you. You must wait in Canada while it is processed, which is usually about a year. For a fiance visa ,you must prove you have a long standing, personal relationship. AN internet relationship does not qualify. If you stay in the U.S. illegally or try to work, you will ruin your chances of ever getting a legal visa. You can study the visa information at the site below. If you like, you can consult an immigration lawyer.
