Getting into a military academy ?

Hi I'm a junior in high school and i'm thinking about going to a military academy, if I can get in. Here are some of the things I've done during high school. Please tell me what you think and or what i can do to increase my chances of getting in.

I'm typing this on a iPhone so please bare with me if my spelling and grammar isn't perfect.

I am in three high school clubs, key club(president), Debate team I'm one of the best in the league. United nations club and i do very well in there. At the end of high school I should have about 40-50 college credits, and i have 4.00  college GPA.  I don't think all the credits would transfer to a military academy, but I think it still would look good that I can do very well at a college level. I have around a 3.70-4.00 GPA in high school, I'm In three honors classes. I have three jobs baseball umpire, life guard, and I work at my local library during the school year. I get over 200 hours of community service hours a year though key club and because I help out at my local food drive. i will have about 600 hours at the end of high school. I went to africa earlier this year to help at a orphanage. I play two sports baseball and rugby(team captain). I have already taken my SAT and I scored over 2000. I have met my congress man a few times and have worked on his bored when he was up for reelection so I think i should get a recommendation. I can easily get a recommendation from my mayor and my bosses if that helps.

This isn't every thing I've done, just the main stuff.

Asking your guidance counselor isn't a bad idea, but my guidance counselor was very limited in his knowledge about the service academies.

Initially, it sounds like you've done everything just like you need to.

I took the SATs on the old grading scale, so I don't know how the new scale is (I got a 670 math and 620 verbal on the old scale...or thereabouts).

You're doing multiple activities and clubs, and taking leadership positions in them. That's key. Being on varsity sports (especially captain) is key. Volunteer stuff is good, also. Your grades look like they're definitely good as well. Your class rank/percentile is something else they'll look at.

The key then is getting your congressman or senator, but it seems like you've already been working on that angle a little bit.

It might be a little late, but see what the timeline is for applying to any of the service academy Summer Seminars. That's a good way to get an introduction to the academies, get paperwork already in your application file there, and demonstrate that it's something you want to do.

Other than that, I think you've really hit all the main things I can think of.

(As a comparison, I was in varsity track and junior varsity cross country, but wasn't a captain. I was in National Honor Society, had a leadership position in Police Explorers, and was in the Rotary Club. My GPA was 5.1 out of a 5.0 scale, but my class rank was outside the top 15% because of taking AP courses. My dad had apparently corresponded with one of the guys that was on the Congressman's interview panel, but I didn't have any other discussion with him or my senator, but I got a nomination from each.)

I forget at what point in the process I talked to a Blue and Gold Officer from the Naval Academy, but you could look into that (or its equivalent - if there even is any - for another service academy).

Overall, it sounds like your numbers and participation is at least as good as mine, and certainly better in multiple aspects. The one thing I'd try and do if I were you is see about that Summer Seminar.

Other than that, you sound like you've put a decent amount of thought into it.

    Good luck!

Start contacting your congress people(US Senate US Represenative) at this time don't wait ask if they can recommend you for appointment to a service Academy

    and the best of luck

and make sure you do as much as you can to stand above the crowd

of the thousands that apply to each Academy only about 1100 get in per Academy that means roughly 3300 get in
