How hard is it to become an art professor? What else do you do for income? What are some tips on getting hired?
I've been doing loads of research and would like to hear some first hand experience. I've been painting and drawing for many years now and already have my BA. I teach an art class at my high school twice a week and would love to at the university level. I also want to broaden my art skills to a brand new level. The next step for me is to enter an MFA program. So can someone help me to see and understand the ins and outs of the college art professor?

The next step is for you to become a successful professional artist. Why would a university hire a teacher of studio art who was not himself/herself able to produce something that people will buy? You might needs degree(s) for a university appointment, but ask the professors of studio art at the university about their own production for the outside world, their commissions, their markets. If you don't think of art as something that the public wishes to consume, why should students pay you very much if all you can teach is a hobby?
