How do I get Spritz cookies to let go of the press?

I'm trying to make Spritz cookies, but the cookie will not come away from the press. Right now I'm chilling the dough to see if that helps. Any one have any other advise?

What you are trying to do is absolutely okay - since that dough contains a lot of butter or margarine, it will keep sticking to the press if you don't put it in the fridge for a while. I'm a grandmother who has made a whole lot of cookies already...:-)

The problem could be that there's not enough flour in the dough. When I first started to make these cookies years ago I had the same problem you are having. Placing the dough in the refrigerator won't help. All that will do is make the dough cold and you will continue to have the same problem.

Here's a recipe you can compare with yours:

    2 cups of flour

    1/2 tsp baking powder.

    1/4 tsp salt

1 cup of butter - softened

    3/4 cup of sugar

    1 egg

    1/2 tsp vanilla

I don't ever chill the dough. I just made a batch of these yesterday and I didn't have any problems with the dough sticking to the plate. Sometimes when I first begin, I will push out more dough than is needed and the dough will be forced up against the plate and this will cause the dough to stick. You might look at that too.

I hope this helps you and good luck with your cookie making!
