How to make Potato Vodka?
I have always wondered how the P.O.W.'s in Stalag Luft 3 ( Home of The Great Escape movie ) made their moonshine.
I know they had potatoes and water, but what about enzymes and yeast?
Considering it was war time, and they had to steal their ingredients, anyone have any thoughts on how they did it?

The starch of the potato can be gelatinized and soon reduced to sugar. This then may be fermented by the bread yeast the POW's lifted from the Gerries and fermented it. They then would only need to distill the potato alcohol. Not difficult at all.

You have potato and water your close. If they could get some bread, or unlikely but natural airborne yeasts and sugar you have the basics. Then distillation can be done with some heat and creatively shaped metal.

buy some or make some regular vodka and then put a potato in it. voila!
