Can my iPad get a virus?

I received an iPad for Christmas, and I want to register with iTunes. But, the home computer my family uses is not 'clean' and I am avoiding connecting my ipad to it. I am not an ipod, ipad, computer person ( I am not big into the latest technology) so I have no idea if doing so is detrimental to my new toy. Can my ipad receive a virus, malware, ect? Once again, I am not computer savy, so keep any explinations simple. Thank you.

To those who don't believe apple products get malware you should read the bulletins that even Apple puts out about malware.

The following one is not directly from Apple but from an Apple users group. Dated 2010 (LAST YEAR)

    http://www.appletablet.net/ipad-virus/

Just Google 'iPad Virus' and you will get hundreds of articles. and Now that the iPad and iPhone are so popular there will be Thousands more "Malware programs" written for them.

Any computing device can be infected is malicious code. Why there is a false sense of security on Apple devices, I'm not sure. While it is very rare, I have personally witnessed malicious code on an iPad. Code that infected outside of the OS, and was seen as random pop-ups instructing the user to call phone numbers or go to web sites, which led to scams to try to get money out of the user. This was on an iPad that had all apps removed, thinking it was an app, but was not. And the Apple ID was removed from all Apple apps (iTunes, app store, game center, etc.) So the only consideration was malicious code residing on the iPad. It was then taken to and Apple store, where the verified malicious code (a virus) and wiped the machine completely for the user. So, yes, iPads CAN get viruses.

As far as I'm concerned, any device or operating system can get a virus or malware. It's just a matter of time.

Take a look at http://us.norton.com/tablet-security/ . It's only for Andriod systems at this time, but I assume it will be available for the iPad in the future.

It's unlikely to be a virus. maybe it just needs charging. Do a hard reset : Press and hold the sleep/wake button on top AND the Home button together for 10 seconds or until the apple logo comes up. it should work fine then

I know. It is an OS that cannot be infected. However, you may make viruses and email, so email that are health advertising, ir that have sent from my iPad, and are not from someone you know, scan and DO NOT OPEN on iPad, as iPad made viruses, can only work on iPad

No the iPad cannot get a virus. The viruses on your computer only infect the Windows operating system. The apps you use on the iPad are tested before they are made available in the app store. Apps running on the iPad are "sandboxed" so they are unable to communicate with or affect anything else running on the iPad. Relax and enjoy your iPad.

No, the only way to give an iPod or iPad a virus would be downloading something bad using jailbreak programs. And even if it did, that is under the warrenty.
