will this stock cooler work with lga 2011?
Will the intel stock cooler that came with my intel i7 990x work with the new x79 chipset processors? Since intel stopped making stock coolers with their new processors i'm going hoping to use my old radiator.

No, the holes are identical in spacing compared with 1366, but it won't go in.
Maybe if you got some thumbscrews that apply enough pressure and use the same threads as LGA2011 it will work. (remove the old ones first)
If you're going to spend 1k on a processor, why not get a decent cooler for it and do some overclocking?
There are plenty of good coolers that will work, and you can get stock coolers for 2011 processors. Intel sells the small aluminium/copper heatsink for about $25, the Intel liquid cooler costs about $100.
The Corsair H80/H100 are around the same price and perform a lot better.
