Indian National Anthem, it has been 100 years today, how should we celebrate?
Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's 'Jana Gana Mana' was first performed on December 27, 1911, at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress which was then a national movement, not a political party. Decades later , once the near-impossible dream of Independence was eventually realized, the Constituent Assembly adopted the song as the national anthem on January 24, 1950.

The great adoration of the Bharath with its diverse regions and people united as one whole, down the ages, whoever ruled the vast expanse, was great theme of the song!
Today we have states fighting for rights over water sources; a Centre that looks on when interstate riparian rights are disputed and apex court verdicts are rejected by states - in utter dereliction of its duty to order the implementation of the judicial verdicts. Sheer political compulsions move every decision or indecision at the Centre or State levels and the spirit of Integration is mauled by politicians, with vote bank interests, playing on false secularism, scant sensitivity to probity in public life etc
In the circumstances the spirit of the great song had long turned dormant and sung only without any sincerity as a ritual in govt functions! Democracy has been fouled by the contemporary politicians who throw empty promises to win elections and work for the interests of few like the rich and the vote bank groups like minorities, on assuming power! They detest exposure of their misdeeds and demands of civil right groups for clean governance.
Tagore would bleed to see the present day Indian politico social scenario and perhaps sing a different song! Sorry I am unable to join a false rejoicing in the present state of things in the nation!
