What is the equivalent to second year(Ireland) in America?

Hi, I need to write this book thing for school and it envolves the person moving to America and i was just wondering what grade in America (USA) is second year. And by any chance you could tell me the way the average curriculum is? Like 7 classes a day or what?

Update:

Just to say second year is the second year of Secondary School and you would be about 13-14 in second year.

In the U.S., it would be considered either "middle school" or "junior high school", depending on the school district. In our town, we have middle school, which is 6th, 7th, and 8th grade (ages 11, 12, and 13). But, our neighboring town has Junior High School, which is only 7th and 8th grade (6th graders still stay in elementary school or primary school as you may better know it).

...since school districts are different according to each city/town, let's just pick one and discuss "junior high school". So the second year of junior high would be 8th grade, and the kids are about 13 years old in age. ..

...An 8th grader would have 6 to 7 "periods" or "classes" per day. ...here is an example of the daily curriculum an 8th grader would have... Math (usually Algebra), English, History, P.E. (physical education), Biology, and one or two electives, for example, foods/cooking, woodshop, choir, band, foreign language, art, etc.

...all schools are Monday thru Friday totaling about 36 weeks in an entire school year (about 180 days). An average day will start at about 8:25 am and end at around 2:35 pm...each class is about 50 minutes in length with about 35 minute break for lunch ...this is just an American average, but each school district and state may vary slightly.

...American holidays include "winter break" with 2 weeks off around Christmas, and another would be "spring break" with 1 week off at around Easter. Smaller "observance" days off would be "Labor Day" (September), "Veterans Day" (November), "Martin Luther King Jr. day" (January), "Lincoln's Birthday" and also "Presidents' day" (February), "Memorial Day" (May).

To start with, I believe that someone in their second year would be either a seventh grader of an eighth grader, as seventh graders are generally twelve to thirteen years old, but there are a few who have missed the cutoff date by a day and can be thirteen to fourteen. Eight graders are usually thirteen to fourteen, but there are weird cases where someone has dropped or skipped a grade.

So I believe the answer is an eighth grader.

The average curriculum... there are a bunch of different schools in the US. To state the two largest types of school, there’s public and private. Public schools are paid for by the government and do not have a course on religion, while private schools are not paid for and most have a course on religion. You would usually have seven classes a day, plus time for lunch and a short recess. Your basic classes would be something like:

Social Studies/Geography/World History/American History - whatever you wish to call it, it’s either History or Geography to most people.

Science - In most eight and seventh grade classes, you learn about the laws of motions, biology, a brief tour into dissection, somethings about the atom, etc. Some schools where I live teach us to use the metric system and stuff.

Math - Eight graders are generally taking either pre-algebra or algebra.

English - split into language arts and reading, it is one class. Deals with writing and punctuation, along with reading books. A LOT of books.

Religion - Depends on what school you go to really. If you go to a private school, some of the teachers try to cram their beliefs down your throat. Even when you don’t listen to them.

Foreign Language - some schools offer these, most schools will teach the junior high (6th through 8th grade) students Spanish. VERY helpful. Some schools have it every day, others have it a few times a week.

Specials - in some schools, these are actual classes every day, while in other schools, they switch between days. Can involve music, art class, and physical education. Believe it or not - a good chunk of American children are not obese and adore physical education (PE) days. We are a competitive bunch. You learn that after you play ground hockey for an hour and the entire class is so passionate about the sport, there are people get smashed into the walls. It is amazing how passionate kids are about that.

Study Hall/Seminar - Depends on the school. Time to work on whatever you need to work on to save your grade. In my current school, it takes up about twenty minutes.

-Good luck and I hope this helps!

i have no idea what "second year" means let alone what its equivalent to.

do you mean second year in a college/university? high school? middle school? elementary school?....

-elementary school in the usa typically goes from kindergarten to 5th grade

-middle school typically includes 6-8 grade

-high school is typically 9-12 grade

-we have 2 and 4 year colleges in a 4 year college the second year you are known as a sophomore.

    **edit**

well most kids in america would turn 13 at some point during 7th grade and 14 at some point during 8th grade. typically this is considered middle school since middle school is typically 6-8 grade.

My feeling is that maximum racism in u.s. (in recent times) is quite a strawman for classism. African-individuals and Hispanics do no longer discover all that plenty difficulty (different than perhaps interior the South) gaining attractiveness as long as they're prosperous and undertake the mores of midsection-type u.s.. whilst they act like they're nevertheless interior the 'hood, nevertheless, they get dealt with like airborne dirt and mud. the comparable is going for "white trash". I propose how do you even arise with a term like that? it rather is not a racist term, that's a classist term. i think of classism IS the unstated prejudice of modern-day u.s.. Peace to you.
