Harley throttle, replace or repair?

So, I was going too fast to start with, then hit the brakes too hard going down my gravel driveway, and it dropped. My throttle is a little stiff now, can it be fixed or am I better off replacing the assembly?

Update:

2000 Sporty 1200c. I haven't taken the cover off yet. but I believe it's dual cable.

Update 2:

Helpful to know what year and kind of Harley- specifically if the throttle has one or 2 cables as late fuel injection units. Try a can of WD40 first, unkink any sharp bends/creases. If that doesn't work, then check replacement. .

Not knowing what model makes it tough to answer. But it is possible that it jammed it further onto the handlebars and is binding up.What happens is the handlebar pokes into the grip making it stiffer to turn.Try loosening the screws and pull the throttle housing out just a hair on the bars. You'll also have to move the brake lever housing to make sure it stays tight against the throttle.Any gap between the lever housing and the throttle housing will cause your brake lights to remain on.Be careful of the brake light switch on the lever housing. It's easy to break it.It's best to loosen all the screws and slide the lever housing and throttle housing together at the same time.Don't forget to tighten all the screws back up.

yeah it is dual cable and the first thing i would do is check the throttle set screw between the cables on the throttle and see if you turned that in a bit when you landed .. the other thing i would do is loosen the bolts on the throttle and see if i could slide it off about a sixteenth of a inch or so and see what that does ..be sure the cables are not in a bind .. chances are that there is little damage done in a low speed crash

might require nothing more than loosening the adjustable throttle tension thumb screw below the throttle grip a half turn or so.

its pretty easy to accidentally turn it in a little when you drop one.

in any case as the other answerer's said ,you should try loosening the mounting screws & squirting a little lube around the moving parts before you start buying new parts.

once you're purely getting began, you likely won't elect to start up off with something too wild. a solid rule for a everyday bike is to avert any bike which you will no longer p.c.. up in case you drop it, any bike the place you could no longer placed the two ft flat on the floor whilst sitting interior the saddle, and any bike with sufficient horsepower for a small motor vehicle. convenience is a touch very own ingredient. I for one locate classic cruisers uncomfortable. Others can journey them from one end of the country to the different with out hassle. in case you detect cruisers gentle, your terrific guess could be to start up off on a 750 cc or smaller jap cruiser, or maybe a Harley 883 Sportster, you would be able to purely like the Kawasaki Vulcan 500 in specific - it extremely is taken under consideration one of their smaller sportbike engines in a cruiser chassis. There are no specific manufacturers to avert, extremely, different than the cheap chinese language copies.

You're best off seeing which part of it is damaged and sticking.

Chances are that replacing it is just spending money.

It's a really simple pulley arrangement under the cover.

Take 'er apart and have a peek.

I'm thinking you've just jammed 'er up and a little massage is the cure.

    While you've got it open.....

that would be a fine time to lube the cables.

Loosen the switch housing and slide it outward a 1/4 " . Your grip is just hanging up on the edge of the handle bar

Not a lot of info, but!

    if it's sticking/binding up,

I'd replace it, repairing it is like putting a 'ban-aid on it'!
