Why do people have a bad attitude toward the military?

I've enlisted recently and a good deal of my friends and family are very proud, but it's been getting akward with some friends who disagree with the war in afghanistan. I joined because I want to serve my country and save lives as a medic. Why do people have a poor attitude toward soldiers when the decision to go to war was made by congress and not the individual soldiers serving?

You have fools answering your post. was 9/11 not enough to show that there are threats that can reach the US. Its not the troops with the holyier than thoughts its the person that thinks they cannot be touched. Even the president (bush) had a man throw a shoe at him at a conference if he can be touched the rest of us can be killed. North Korea and China spend about the same money on war as us and they are not even currently involved in a war... they can both attack America and will do major damage before being stopped. Hopefully if they do they attack your towns first.

What are you talking about? Everyone I have ever listened to speak against the war still FULLY supports the troops.

Frankly, I feel it is the SOLDIERS with the poor attitudes. They feel that suddenly they are holier-than-thou just because they joined the military. They act like they are making SUCH A BIG SACRIFICE and they are the ones standing between our freedoms and terrorists about to take over the whole nation. Like we should all be sssoooo proud.

They VOLUNTEERED to join the military, which is an extremely well-paid career. And we are so ridiculously ahead in technology that it isnt even that dangerous. In fact, there is a higher risk of a farmer or commercial fisherman dying on the job than a US soldier.

Just do your JOB like everyone else and stop begging to be worshiped. A job as a soldier is no more important than a job as a teacher or a doctor.

Edit: And anyone who says our soldiers are currently fighting for our freedom are completely full of sh*t. America spends more on military than the next 25 nations COMBINED. There is ABSOLUTELY no outside force that could threaten American freedom. The only threat to freedom America faces is coming from the inside.

I for one am quite proud of the sacrifices our men + women make for our freedom. The only people I would say feel that way are the ones that oppose war in general. Try not to take it personally. Be safe + God Bless You

    I'm not.

And those people that are will be the first ones to yell for their military to help them if we are ever invaded in this country and they start getting rounded up. Then they won't be so down on the military when it comes to saving their own butt.

May God bless you and keep you safe. As I pray for all our wonderful, brave, strong military personnel.
