Mossberg pump problem, hard to pump?

Hi, I have a mossberg 500 pump shotgun in 12 gauge. Shotgun is only 1 years old, and I took it to the shooting range today, and after shooting 5 rounds of birdshot, I tried to eject shells, but iit was so hard to pump the forearm to eject the shell. It did it maybe 5 times in about 25 rounds. What could be the issue? Shotgun has been fired around 250 times, and never done it before till today. It only did it with the 18" mossberg barell, and not the hunting mossberg barell. Its as if after shooting then trying to pump shell out, its one tough job, you have to try to rack it atleast ten times. Gun is well taken care of and always clean

Remove the 18" barrel and check the chamber area where the bolt locks into. It could be rough in that area due to machining from the factory. You can use a Dremel tool with a buffing attachment and polish that area smoother. You're trying to make that area smooth so there is less friction between the bolt carrier and the chamber of the barrel. Also, check the bolt carrier and see if there is signs of friction as well. You can also look inside the receiver of the shotgun where the bolt carriers rides. If you see excessive wear on the bluing ( I do emphasize the word, "excessive" ) then you can also polish up the rough edges of the bolt carrier as well. You can also add a small drop of molybdenum disulfide grease behind the bolt carrier, this will give a nice slick cushion for the bolt carrier to ride on. You can get this grease from gun shops or gun smiths.

    Best wishes to you.

Clean the chamber on the short barrel....or loosen the takedown nut and make sure the under barrel flat isn't rubbing on the slide tube collar before you retighten it.
