No bootable device --- insert boot drive and press any key?

I'm running on a windows 7 ultimate x64 build 7600.

HP Pavilion dv6 notebook.

I shut it down yesterday and when turned it on today it shows me a message after the HP logo says

"No bootable device --- insert boot drive and press any key"

I have an original Windows 7, and a very important files, so I don't want to delete it so what to do?

Update:

The Hard Drive is already listed as my first priority boot,

I've tried to make a test on the hard drive but it shows me a message says:

"Hard Disk Not Exist"

you have four answers, none of them are anywhere near the right answer. You have what is known as a corrupt MBS (Master Boot Sector). That means the computer can't access the hard drive so it says "No bootable device found".

You say you have very important files, that you don't want to loose. so what do you do. This is what you DON'T DO. You don't insert Windows 7, If it's NOT the original Hp windows systems set up disk that came with the computer. (which it won't be)

You have learned one very important lesson which is NEVER leave important data on a computer without making external backup copies of the files. Your next lesson will be to learn how to get your important data off a crashed windows systems disk.

Here is what you do, you download this file and make a live Bootable cd or USB jump drive so that you can boot your computer up with it. you will then log on to the crashed hard drive find the files and folders and copy them to a external source (USB Jump drive)

here are the files you need to download

    enter the BIOS

Make sure the Hard drive is LISTED in the devices and shown as a

hard drive. If it is not then there is something seriously wrong

check that the HARD drive is seleced as the First Boot device.

Change the settings and make it the first boot device if necessary.

check the date and time too.

if that is wrong then assume the CMOS battery needs replacing

a CMOS battery should last 3 years but in some cases the first battery

    may only last 12 months.

    save the bios settings

    restart

if it still does the same thing

Enter the BIOS and perform the NON destructive Hard drive tests

Make sure you choose a NON destructive test otherwise you

    could destroy your data.

The computer will give you the result of the quick test

Windows 7 does not support some pc's and one of the things it gets wrong

is changes to the BIOS. Windows takes over the BIOS and can mess it up.

This is sometimes fixed with a BIOS update, but it must be in a fully working

    state first.

If this pc did not come with windows 7 then the BIOS update may only work

with the Original Operating system so do not try this.

Carling is very likely correct (but unlike what he says, all the others are possible too). There is one other possibility (which happened to me once). If the computer was jolted recently, the hard drive could possibly have come out. I don't know the HP Pavilion dv6 but there will likely be a hatch for the hard drive. Press in on it firmly and re-boot. Unlikely but very quick and simple to check. So I'd do that first.

may be a topic or it could no longer be. difficult drives are put in in distinctive procedures from producer to producer. those put in in apersistent bay on the backside of the pc decrease than the two.5 X 3.0 plastic place might properly be jarred unfastened from the connector while there's a ability to the pc. discover this plate, do away with the screw (or screws) and make particular the puzzlingpersistent s completely seated into the connector. it is the least difficult area of prognosis first. There are 3 issues human beings might desire to renowned to help those with pcs: a million. producer, 2. variety call and form and, 3. What domicile windows working gadget. 2d component became it truned off or engaged on the time it fell. If it became working, it could ought as properly sector or the MBR (grasp Boot checklist) fixed. This demands using the domicile windows installation CD. The Little panel that popped out became the two the single the place the memory chips are or the single for the hard disk bay. you may tell the version via length, the memory panel is the smallest one on the backside.

Sounds like the hard drive is damaged. You might need to have it repaired, and repairing a hard drive without wiping it is something laptop manufacturers very rarely do; they'll often just give you a new one, since they don't have the equipment to get files back from a damaged drive. Take it to a computer store like Best Buy and ask if they have a machine that could get your files back for you. Careful, though, it might get expensive.

Might just be the bios trying the wrong drive... I've had that before... Just go into it and set your hdd as the 1st boot priority

put in a bootable disc with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on it and try to repair it then go into safe mode and recover as many files as you can. if you do not know how to do this i would go to a trusted itt person you might know or ask your friends if they know anyone.

Cleaning the register is a good way of improving the performances of your pc and eliminate malwares and trojans. A program I trust is CCleaner http://j.mp/UrAC7A
