I am looking to buy a pet monkey?

Yes I know it sounds a little extreme, but I really want a pet monkey. Thinking about kids really turns me off to that idea and when I think of having one, and even the good things, I still dont want one. I want a monkey though b/c its like a kid but there's less responsibility involved. Do you know a website that sells monkeys, or do you have a pet monkey? If so, which kind? Which kind should I get, also? How much does one cost, and how much is food for them? Can I feed it human food and dress it in diapers/potty train it, and get it to not throw poo? Is a spider monkey the best choice, since I want one that wont end up overpowering me? Can you train them to do cool stuff and pick up around the house, and is getting a monkey even a fun or great idea?

Where on earth did you get the idea that monkeys are easier than children to keep? Having a monkey is a little like having an out of control toddler who never grows up. Spider monkeys live for 15-20 years or more, so there is on-going responsibility, even longer than with a human child.

No monkeys are suitable for pets. They are all a wild animal. They are all cute and clingy when babies, mainly because the infant is ripped from its mother when it should be with her for years. When they enter puberty, they revert to being what they are.

Do you know that capachin monkeys (another popular "pet" species) live 30-50 years? They are cute and handle-able as babies, but then they begin to mature. And when they start puberty, they are like having an angry and compulsive 2 year old with mental problems. Imagine a toddler who can climb anything, is strong, crafty, cannot be potty trained, won't wear a diaper, and who plays in their urine and feces (which stink, BTW) And monkeys bite, as they are still a wild animal. Once past the baby stage, they are dangerous and unpredictable. They require strong and large cages. They need lots of outdoor sunny space. In addition, they require constant care. As a rule, they do not like people, especially children, and very few places will board one if you'd like to take a vacation 25 years from now. They are hard to re-home if you should tire of your perpetual toddler in a few years. They become depressed when they are not in their primate group. They often exhibit disturbing behavior, including self-mutilation and excessive masturbation. Here is a site you might find interesting:

Im many locations, it is illegal to own a monkey. In addition, buying a monkey is often supporting illegal poaching and the destruction of wildlife. They are not a cute or prestige pet to show how trendy or different you can be. They are truly a lifelong commitment. IMO, it should never be legal for a citizen to own one. I hope you make the right decision, for your sake as well as the poor creature

Monkeys are wild animals. MORE high maintenance like a child and would be like having a violent ADHD toddler for around 30-40 years.

Spider Monkeys have to live in groups of their own kind in enormous enclosures. You see how zoos and wildlife parks keep them? Like that. It is not a surrogate human baby, it's a wild animal with wild needs. They do not tame. They hit adolescence and turn violent and bitey.
