Call of duty is for players that like fast pace action games and battlefield is for patient players call of duty is for players that want to have fun and battlefield is for extremely serious players call of duty has moderate graphics battlefield has excellent graphics.
It really depends what type of gamer you are like I like to have fun so I play cod others like to have a more mature game experience so they play battlefield but its mostly on preference both have a pretty fun multiplayer and a lot of people complain about both campaigns that they are both too short but in the end it comes down to preference.

Preference and opinion.
Call of Duty has a very robust, fast-paced multiplayer almost entirely focused on in-your-face infantry combat. It's very clear to the most casual observer that it's a game, nothing more, nothing less. If that's your style, Call of Duty is excellent in this regard. Single player and story wise, I think the whole Modern Warfare series is poorly written and ridiculous, but again, depends on why you play.
Battlefield is more grounded in reality than Call of Duty, with all the pros and cons that brings. Multiplayer maps are generally far more spacious and vehicle combat is very often a viable option or obstacle, depending on your play style and what end of the barrel you're on. Personally, I think Battlefield's multiplayer is superb. Single player is sort of borrowing heavily from Call of Duty lately, which I see as a very big minus, but to each his own.
All I can really say beyond that is that you should play the games yourself and decide what's your preference. I don't think you can go too wrong with either label.

call of duty is for gamers that like to play games and battlefield is for gamers that like to pretend like they are doing something real and like to call games like call of duty childish. so COD = AWESOME and BATTLEFIELD = NOT AWESOME
