Which TV/internet should I go with? (Will give 10 pts best answer)?

I am moving at the end of this month and trying to make the choice. Here are the details:

First option is DirecTv. Their deal is $73 a month +tax and $37.95 start up fee. This includes 210+ channels, DVR receiver & service, 2 boxes, 3 months free movie channels, and 10 Mbps internet. The downfall: 24 month contract. Which is $20 a month if I break early. Also, this rate is only for 1st year, second year will be $99. a month.

Ok, second option is our local cable provider. Their deal is $114. a month, $50 deposit. This includes 200+ channels (digital cable), DVR receiver and service, 2 boxes, and 10 Mbps internet. No contract.

It basically comes down to paying more to not have a contract, but after I lease this place for one year, I know I'll be moving again and I have no idea if that next place will allow satellite service. Also, is 10 Mbps good internet speed? My boyfriend plays PS3 online, I just use internet for iTunes and homework. Thanks for your input!

Just to clarify a few things first. 10mps for the things you described might be good enough. However, your bf might suffer because ps3 online might need a faster internet connection.

You are wrong about it comes down basically to paying more not to have a contract. You are buying two different things here.

DirectTV is satellite technology. Which means they will be installing a big dish outside of your house. If you live in apartment, check with your landlord. It has questionable service when rain/snow/thunderstorm comes around. DirectTV does not offer internet directly. They partner with a local company to provide you with internet, usually not that fast.

Cable might be more expensive, but their service will be much better.

SO, it basically comes down to paying more for a better quality service. the contract usually does not make much of a difference, but in your case, you might not know if your next place will allow directTV.

Something nice about Directv: you can suspend your contract for 6 months without having to pay fees if need-be. If you move, they will hook ya up at your new place - and they have the most satellites than other companies, so most likely you'll get service whever you move.

I have Directv and we LOVE it. We actually just left Dish Network because lots of billing issues we have had with them. Before Dish we had Charter, and we really did not like their customer service. Personally I would choose Directv. Directv has a deal right now that includes 210 channels for $65.99 -not sure if location changes prices- If you're going to pay $114 for local service, why not pay less for the first year and then pay average amount next year? Signing a contract DOES suck, but I've found that Ive only cancelled a service early once, and that was because of a serious situation.

If you go with Directv you can get $100 off by telling them you're referred by me -make sure you do this while you're signing up on the phone or online. We just did this with my husband's parents and it worked. Just give them my account number, last name and phone number and you get the discount (and I get something out of it too =)) [Account number: 51957153, Last name: Montabello, phone number: 775-313-8785]

    Hope this helped =)
