I don't know what the problem is but I'm having second thoughts on getting a new HP laptop. My old HP laptop is 7 years old but still runs like new even managing to out paste my sisters new Toshiba however HP's newer models seems to have various different flaws.
Overheating seems to be the main one and this can cause inside components to fail (Ram, video card harddrive and possibly other components to). Your laptop should be under warranty if its new if not it might be a trip to a pc store.

the same thing happened to my old laptop (main difference is the age mine was 5 years old)
i think the battery is faulty im no expert but i think you need to get it checked and see if it can be repaired if not you will need to replace the battery i would say it would cost £50-£150 depending on where you go
hope that helps
