Worm Composting: Can you use cardboard boxes as containers to save money IF..?

1. You don't care about them eating through it because you can replace boxes every 2 weeks and stack em in the mean time?

2. You put ash at the very bottom to prevent them from eating the bottom and only water around the middle to prevent side-eating?

Will this work and do you have any ideas on really cheap containers?

Your ideas may work but it sounds like a big hassle. I use cheap plastic tubs (the ones you can get for $8 at Target. I poke holes in the top for air circulation and holes in the bottom for liquid drainage. And I don't have to worry about replacing the boxes every couple weeks. Works like a charm.

It will work if you use corrugated cardboard boxes. It's the glue between the layers that they eat and survive on.
