Should people on food stamps be allowed to gamble?

    It would be irresponsible on their part because if they are on government assistance, they probably don't have much of an income and should therefore plan and budget rather than risk losing the little bit of money they have. However, as for whether they should be ALLOWED to gamble, the answer is yes. Laws should not be made in attempt to regulate responsibility. It doesn't work and it impedes on the individual's freedom. Perhaps it is the food stamp program that needs reform.

    Why not? It is not the food stamp that they gamble. If they choose gambling over shelter, who are we to say otherwise?

    Besides, you and what army can stop them?

    How exactly would you propose that we stop them? There's no way to know is and is not receiving benefits at a casino, or for the benefits agency to know who is gambling. Is it responsible for someone on assistance to blow money frivolously? Of course not. But how can you stop it?
