I adored Paul Lynde. The thing is, you had to see his facial expressions to get the whole joke. The one I remember most is the one you cited, about the Hell's Angels and the chiffon. I laughed so hard at that I was literally on the floor.
Too bad you didn't post any from Wally Cox, who was also very funny! But, good posting and memories.
It was revealed later on that some of the one-liners were scripted, although the stars never knew the actual answers. Who cares? Good writing is good writing, and the lines were delivered by the best comics in the business.

The showing of Hollywood Squares that the middle square was always the one cracking jokes like Paul Lynde. The other were more serous with their answers. But later had changed so everyone is cracking jokes with answers, including believe the new owner Whoopi Goldberg has the middle square all the time.

These brought back memories! What a game show. My favorites were among some you have mentioned. Paul Lynde was a riot. I wish they brought back the Hollywood Squares, but it wouldn't be the same as the original. So many of the great comedians are gone.

Yes, I remember that show very well. Hilarious. I wonder if Jackie Gleason saw UFOs? I loved Charley Weaver's answer though.

Yes, I remember Hollywood Squares when they had these very funny people on it. They tried to bring back the show a few years ago, but it just didn't work. At the time these answers were so "naughty", and we all took a guilty pleasure in laughing at them.
Thanks for the memories. Really enjoyed these.

I remember it well and these quotations from it tell me why I enjoyed it so much. Now I was pretty young at the time so I might have missed some of the humour, but I enjoyed it and now I'm enjoying it more - thanks for sharing these. I wonder where I can find more. I'm going to google Hollywood Squares now. Still laughing! LOL

The sly humor was wonderful. I suspect that most the the Qs and As were scripted but that didn't make them any less funny. .
