How do I get my 12 month old to drink milk out of a sippy cup?
My son just turned one 2 days ago, and I've decided to bottle break him immediately. He will drink water or juice out of the sippy cup no problem but he doesn't want anything to do with a sippy cup of milk. He drinks milk out of the bottle but as soon as I offer it in a sippy cup he throws it on the ground and kicks it and acts like its a toy. I haven't offered him anything but water and milk out of the sippy cup since early yesterday morning and no bottles. He took his nap and slept fine last night but will not drink any milk out of the cup. I know if I give him milk in the bottle he will just hold out for it in the future, but I also know that he needs milk. What should I do?

I have a 13 mth old that never really liked her formula and milk isnt much different. The advice my doc gave me is that she didnt really need the fat intake from the milk (unless she was underweight). Your son doesnt need more than 12-16oz daily. You can give him other dairy products like cheeses and yogurts. Also my daughter is anemic and was told that milk (given with meals or more than recommended daily amount) can prevent the body from absorbing iron from foods properly. There are many other foods from which he can get calcium http://pediatrics.about.com/od/calcium/a/06_calciu...
I wouldnt worry about it. Dont give in and give the bottle.

Keep giving him the sippy cup with milk in it. Don't give in and give him the bottle. Just keep offering him the sippy cup of milk. You can do it. He'll do it eventually.

just dont give it to him in a bottle. maybe ask him if he wants to be a big boy and have a sip from a "big boy" cup. if he says no, then dont push him. he sounds like he likes milk but really really wants it in a bottle for whatever reason. just keep giving it to him in a cup and not a bottle.
maybe get him his very own big boy cup, and a funny straw for him to use it with.
Sippy cups are terribly convenient but they also can cause malformations of the child's teeth and mouth, so you might try getting him to use big boy cups as he gets older.

I had to take the juice far off from my son for some days and supply him in basic terms milk and in basic terms water. He replaced into related to his bottle/milk blend... yet i did no longer want him taking the recent infant's bottles so we switched him over to sippy cups some months before his youthful brother replaced into born. it particularly is effective, by using fact now he prefers milk and water over juice, and he would not whinge as quickly as we water down the juice to 50/50 juice/water. It in basic terms took approximately 3 days. We used the Nuby sippy cups too, till my son began biting holes in them. Then we switched to the universal Playtex ones.

Try a regular cup with his meals and snack.
And there is no need to break him immediatly. Slow wean him off by replacing one bottle every few days with food and drink.

Toss the stupid sippy cups in the trash; they leak all over the place and ruin a child's teeth.
Give him ALL liquids from normal cups and glasses.

He doesn't need the milk. He can get the fat and calcium from plenty of other sources.
Try full fat yogurt, cheese, calcium fortified juices, etc...
You could also try adding flavor to his milk. Nesquik and Ovaltine, although still sugary, are the healthiest and have vitamins and such.
Works great for my daughter. She hates white milk so I put a little bit of nesquik or ovaltine in it.
