Dishwasher problem, not filling with water.?

I have a Hygena Dishwasher, sorry I don't know the appliance model number as it isn't showing anywhere.8-((

It is at least 12 years old, inherited with the house.

It will drain fine but will not bring any water in on the wash cycle.

I have checked the supply hose and water is getting that far.

Any ideas what could cause this problem.

Thanks,

Arnak

Update:

Thanks guys those were really helpful answers.8-((

If I'd wanted comedy answers I would listen to an MP speak.8-))

It will only be expensive to fix if I can't do it myself!

Are there any flashing lights or beep codes?

If the hose and water supply are both ok (i.e. water comes out of the machine end) then it can only be the inlet valve, pressure sensor / flow meter, possibly the heater or the electronics.

If the inlet valve has failed closed no water will get through.

The pressure system could be blocked and is reporting that it is still full of water so its not filling

The flow meter could be faulty but would usually not happen until it started filling so can probably be discounted.

On some older units the heater is in series with the flow, its designed so if there is no water the heater wont burn out, but conversely if the heater fails then the water wont flow!

The final and usually most expensive option is the electronics.

As for model numbers try looking for an engraving on the right hand side (looking from the front) inside edge of the door

It would cost more to fix than buying a new one
