What are the usb things that you plug into a desktop to use wifi?

my friend used to have a little usb thing that looked kind of like a flash drive but she could use it for wifi on a desktop, it broke so i want to buy her a new one, but i don't know what to search for.

    A USB wifi dongle. One can be ordered online from ebay.com etc for a few dollars.

    Take care that it is compatible with the wifi router you are using. The classification is IEEE 803:11 a,b, g, n. All are not compatible with each other. Read this informative article for more details :

    It's commonly called a USB WiFi "Dongle" or USB WiFi adapter

    almsot anything which hangs out of a computer this way is generically called a 'dongle', thus this is a wifi dongle. however, most people say usb wifi.
