Refusing Draft Registration?
I strongly disagree with the draft on principle, but lets leave that debate alone right now... Can you tell me what would likely happen if I were to just ignore all the selective service mail I get and not register? I just turned 18 and live in Florida (U.S.)... Thanks for you're help!

If you have a good reason, you can claim Conscientious Objection. You'll normally have to appear before your local draft board to explain your beliefs.
You have 30 days after you turn 18 to either register or claim CO.
Otherwise.. failure to register can earn you a fine of up to $250,000 and/or a prison term of up to 5 years.
p.s. I avoided the draft be enlisting and serving over 4 years in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Draft evaders aren't my favorite people!

There isn't going to be a draft now or in the foreseeable future so why cause yourself the problems by not registering. And if you don't register you can't get Federal Grants to help pay for college.

You will be convicted of a federal crime for failing to register, could get up to 5years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000. You have to register, but there is no draft. If you register before they find you, they won't arrest you.

Since there is no draft at the present time, you can ignore all the selective service mail you get.
