My Car headlights are fogged. Will the inspectors get mad?

My car will be due for an inspection in July. And my headlights have seen better days. It's very foggy. Would the state inspector require new headlights? They're not cheap. $500 is the price for safety.

You must live under a rock. Go to the auto-parts store. Tell them the problem. They'll sell you a $30 kit to fix it. Sheesh!

More important, those foggy lenses cut down how far you can see at night. Auto parts stores carry inexpensive kits to clean & polish the lenses. . . . if you don't want to do it yourself, an auto detail shop can polish them for you......but it's ez: just a few wipes with their compound if they aren't too bad - some elbow grease if worse, but something you can easily do.

A really cheap and effective way to clean your headlights is to scrub them really well with regular toothpaste. Scrub them vigorously with a rag (or use a small buffer) with the toothpaste, and rinse well.
