Besides being approximately 100 years apart there is really no comparison between this sinking and that of the Titanic. Other than the year what are the similarities, lets see
Titanic - Hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and sank to the bottom after breaking in two with a loss of over 1500 lives on April 15, 1912. The ship was not discovered until 1985 when the fact that it had broken in two was confirmed.
Concordia - Hit a reef (rock) on January 13th, 2012 and then listed to the right sinking about half way in shallow water off the coast of Giglio, an Island in Italy with a confirmed loss of 5 lives and just over 10 people currently unaccounted for. The wreck itself is clearly visible as about half of the ship is out of the water with it resting on its Starboard side.
Oh yes, the Titanic was an Ocean LIner, the Concordia is a Cruise Ship and both feature different designs. In the case of the Titanic the sinking was caused by a combination of factors including maintaining an unsafe cruising speed when ice had been reported, the possible missing binoculars for the lookouts which may have let them see the iceberg earlier, and, of course, the fact that the steel making up the ship was brittle and shattered rather than bend and tear. This made the gash in the side significantly larger than it would have been. In addition of course there were inadequate lifeboats for all on board.
The cause of the Concordia sinking was a gash in the port side due to hitting a reef below the water line. Although the reason they hit it is unknown at this time it is most likely through human or mechanical error. The ship itself listed to the right while the Captain was attempting to beach it preventing the maneuver. It did have sufficient lifeboats etc however the severe list prevented them from being used fully. It does appear from the latest intel that the ship was slightly off course due to an action of the Captain. From what I have read he sailed the ship closer to shore than allowed for the equivalent of a "fly by" since apparently the Head Waiter's parents lived on the island.

Well, other than they are both ships with holes in their sides, there isn't a lot of comparison.
Titanic sank in the middle of the night in the middle of the ocean. MOST of the people on board died.
This ship is within 100 feet of the shoreline. It hasn't sunk but is 'merely' leaning over a bunch. It is in water that is barely up to its decks so it isn't sinking. A handful have died and a few more are missing.
I understand that there was chaos onboard when the order was given to abandon ship, but I would think that is fairly common on most multinational ships -- think of all the different languages spoken by the passengers on this ship -- and by the fact that most people were told that they weren't sinking and that they had nothing to worry about -- then suddenly the order was given to get off the boat.

Titanic comparisons are a bit much.........there was a horrific loss of life, on the Titanic......the count here so far, is only 5, with about 20 perhaps still missing.
The Titanic sank and was a total loss. This ran aground and tipped over....and will be salvaged.
Both horrific tragedies.......but Titanic was by far the greater tragedy.

Not really like the Titanic as it was sunken to the ocean bed whereas this one is sitting on its side after running aground.

It is nothing at all like the Titanic.
Get real.

How people can compare this to the Titanic is absolutely beyond me.

I didn't see it sink, no, but I did see TV news reports about it. What a shame.
